Classroom Rules
Certain standards must be upheld in a classroom. The following is a list of rules, an explanation of said rules, and the reason that they are in place. Please take a moment to read through and familiarize yourself with my expectations. I don't have many rules, but the ones I do have are of the utmost importance, and I expect them to be followed on a daily basis.
1. Respect
2. Participate in Your Learning
3. Help One Another Out!
1. Respect
- Respect goes a long way in the classroom (and in life in general). Respect should be demonstrated from each and every one of my students towards myself, your peers, and any visitors which may enter our classroom. Respect is such an important aspect of a person's personality. It not only demonstrates that you are a good human being, but will get you very far in life. I expect my students to demonstrate respect for two reasons. Firstly, it is good practice for later in life. Secondly, it makes for a great learning environment. If we create a respectful and accepting environment in my classroom, then I promise you will succeed, and learn some really interesting things too!
2. Participate in Your Learning
- Being an active learner is an extremely important part of your education. An active learner takes responsibility for their learning, and maintains good study habits. You can be an active learner by coming to class prepared (this means having your readings and homework done), listening (not just hearing) during class, and by asking questions. I implore all of you to ask me at least one question a class! Asking questions not only provides you with the clarification you require, but also allows me to know what I may need to explain further. I urge all of you to participate in your learning because this will help you when you graduate! Trust me, you don't stop learning when you graduate high school. Participating in your learning and making yourself an active learner opens your mind to the world and allows you to keep on learning far beyond high school.
3. Help One Another Out!
- High school can be a very tough time. It is for this reason that I urge my students to lend one another a helping hand every chance they get. If a classmate misses a day, their study buddy should take the initiative to gather up the work they missed and inform them of what happened in class that day. I want my students to feel comfortable enough to give each other a call (or tweet, or Facebook message, or BBM...) when they need homework help. Please do your best to be inclusive, helpful and kind to one other. The reasoning behind this rule is quite self-explanatory. You guys are all in the same boat. Working collaboratively and being kind to one another will help out immensely with my course, and in life in general.
